When I read this quotation at the end of an article about Girard, contemporary of Nelson and Eames at Herman Miller, it resonated, as a description of some of my own work. While some of my work is decidedly contemplative, other work is made in the spirit of play. The description also suggests a means of dividing art and craft, in a way that I find descriptive rather than divisive.
